Britannia Music Hall, Glasgow; grade A listed. Dating from the mid-19th century, the Britannia is reputed to be the earliest music hall/variety theatre in Scotland and one of earliest in Britain. The Britannia had lain disused since the 1930s, surviving as a time capsule. Dennis Rodwell’s feasibility study, undertaken for Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Development Agency, aimed at full restoration and revival of the Britannia as a live venue. The report recommended setting up a trust to take the project forward and the Britannia Music Hall Trust was formed in achieve this.
