Coordinating historical research into the Darley Abbey factory village, undertaking condition surveys, conservation area appraisal and achieving community involvement. (These activities were complementary to the promotion of Derby’s interest in the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site.)

 

     

Promoting and securing the conversion, reuse and restoration of redundant industrial buildings, including:

     •  the former Midlands Counties and North Midland Railway Company complex of locomotive and carriage workshops, including 
        the roundhouse, sheds and smithies; dating from 1839 and now part of the University of Derby; and 
                                                                   
     •  the former Rykneld Tean Mill complex of textile mills; initially an early 18th-century silk weaving mill and now converted to luxury
        flats.

Regeneration of Burnley's cotton weaving industrial heritage: drafting Canalside Conservation Area Appraisal; policy and technical support to the mutli-million pound regeneration initiatives supported by the North West Development Agency, English Heritage, Heritage Lottery Fund and others.
